Wat bij de dames zonder problemen lukte, kon Japan bij de heren niet waarmaken: zich plaatsen voor de finale van de World Team Cup. Zuid-Korea bleek een té sterke tweede reekshoofd voor de Japanse heren. Vooral de wijze waarop Oh Sang Eun (foto) voorbij Kaii Yoshida ging was indrukwekkend. De Japanse dames gingen dan weer zonder problemen voorbij Hongkong.

China, in beide reeksen de favoriet, wist zich wel dubbel te plaatsen voor de finale. Bij de dames werd Singapore zonder pardon opzij gezet. Bij de heren was het verzwakte Duitsland, dat kopman Timo Boll mist, niet in staat te stunten. Dimitrij Ovtcharov maakte zijn rol als kopman wel waar door voorbij Wang Hao te gaan.
